In the bible it tells of three wise men bearing gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh. Can anyone tell me what happened to it please.

Matthew 2:1-3 "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled."
Matthew 2:11 "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshiped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
there is no evidence that there were three of them but there were three gifts...i guess they do what other people do when they get a gift basket....they used it....they fled to Egypt away from Herod...the gold of course was useful as money, myrrh was used as an oil base for perfumes mostly used in funerals so the bodies wouldn't smell, frankincense had medical properties as well as burned as a welcome to guests....all pretty useful in their journey

Read it again. It does *NOT* say three wise men in Matthew 2, and no place else in the bible does it mention gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

In Matthew 2, however, it says the gifts were given to the child; that's what became of the gifts.

These were symbolic gifts only. The gold represented a wealthy life and would have been used towards Jesus' upkeep. In those days children were kept apart from their parents until they were 12 years old and lived in communes run by the women. Even today Jewish boys have a Barmitzvah on their 13th birthday to celebrate the return to their families.

The frankincense was burned in a container to provide fragrant smoke during religious ceremonies and probably used at his 13th birthday.

Myrrh was an ointment rubbed on the bodies of the dead as a preservative and would have been soaked into the bandages or shroud that His body was wrapped in after the crucifixion.

There were three gifts from wise men, not three wise men. The Bible makes no mention of how Mary and Joseph used the gifts. According to the Bible, they fled to Egypt for a couple years, they may have used it then to live off of.

I assume they were kept and / or used by Mary and Joseph as they continued their journey home.
