I heard that red peppers are really good for you and have a high amount of Vitamin C. Would my ripe green peppers that have turned red be high in Vitamin C? Are they like the red peppers that you can buy in the store for a higher price than green peppers? If not, where do I get the plants or seeds for red peppers? In my area, they only sell green pepper plants. Thanks!

Joyce,

they are the exact same peppers that you see in the store. all green peppers will turn red if allowed to ripen.

red peppers pack about 100% more vitamins than the green.

plant California Wonder pepper plants. they are great and you will get a boatload of peppers.

use Miracle Grow once a week until they start setting fruit. then don't fertilize anymore.

In my garden I have Thai peppers, Jalepeno peppers, and Bell peppers. Every one of these peppers will turn red if you leave them on the plant long enough and you have sunny days . . . just like tomatoes !!!! I'm not 100% sure if the color changes the vitamin content . . . but they will sure taste different. If the vitamin content does change . . . it would be a negligible change. Taking one multi-vitamin a day would give you 10 times the amount of vitamins a single bell pepper would. In any event . . . eating home grown vegetables taste better and are better for you. You're doing better than 90% of the public . . . green or red !!! Happy Gardening !!!!

Yes most peppers will turn red, after they get ripe. On plant or in store they will be the same.

Most green bell peppers go from green to yellow to red as they ripen. The length of time to go through the whole cycle is why the red and yellow peppers are so much more expensive in the store.
