while i can see the point of having the memorials every year and i do feel for anyone that lost someone be it family, friend, coworker or what have you. Its in my mind each and everyday. i worked less than 5 minutes from the Pentagon and was there when that plane smashed into it. No memorial is necessary for me because i will never forget any of that..for the rest of my life. I saw them putting up the flag for the memorial last week and i couldnt even act right. I had to go outside and take some alone time.

Well, I sorta agree. Some people need the yearly memorial in an effort that no one in this country ever forgets what happened that day - what happened is probably bigger than Pearl Harbor! For some, the yearly memorial IS part of their grieving process.
But on the other hand, we should probably save it for the 5th, 10th, etc. anniversary because I don't think anyone who was alive at that time will ever forget. That date is emblazoned on our memories forever.

I understand but do not fully agree. For the victims families it will go on forever no matter what we all do or not. It is the majority who did not experience this event first hand that must always be reminded. Even with this clear and yearly reminder it has started to fade. Going on is good and we are fortunate to be able to do so, but we cannot ever forget this, EVER. Images and memorials are needed in the healing and recovery process and will in the future keep it fresh and real as time tends to fade all things. I know I need reminding, I want my kids to understand and tell the story to their kids. It is possible to both go on and remember ,
these are one of the ways.

No I don't agree. I think that this is something that we should always remember. And besides if you don't want to watch all those 911 memorials all you have to do is change the channel.

the memorials help the victims and also the American public. they are necessary to help us remember what the fighting is all about.

I agree but then I don't. I understand that they will never get over it, but they will never anyway cause that was someone that was special to them. My suggestion to u is not to look at them if it bothers you.
