Why do people insist on trying to make it about charity, world peace, etc? We were attacked and people died. That in itself makes it a historical day and a historical site. It doesn't require spin or fluff.

I agree 100% asker, the fact that the event marks the date for constant political argument regarding the war and world issues is equally depressing and frustrating. The fact that they can't refrain for one day shows you how little respect can be found in the media and political world, (like the idiot who answered above me). But I must say, and I'm only saying this because he was the main man when getting New Yorkers/Americans through that day, I admire how Giuliani handles 9/11 each year, he still handles it beautifully, saying only what needs to be said, he refuses to discuss politics on this day each year. But there's some hope as far as remembering 9/11 goes... give it 7 or 8 years, and it will subside, and will truly be more about remembering the victims rather than current events. -- Hopefully.

Well, first off, yes it was a terrible event..the worst attack against America..and that in itself makes it a historical day..

But, you have to think of the implications. Why did this happen to us?

I can't help but think of the cultural aspects of 9/11. Maybe it's because I studied international affairs and cultures in college that makes me so interested in the strife between the Middle East and the Western world.

But, I do above all, agree that this day should be about remembering those innocent lives that were lost. There is not much I can do about changing the way people think towards each other, but i'm curious about it. I'll leave that to the policy makers and diplomats. Lets hope they all learned from this tragedy as well.
