Texas has a policy of limiting alimony.
In general, alimony will be granted only in marriages of ten years or more, and only if the spouse receiving maintenance will not have enough property after the divorce to provide for his or her minimum reasonable needs, and only if:
The recipient is physically or mentally disabled, and so can not support himself or herself; or The recipient is custodian of a child who has physical or mental disability making it advisable that the recipient not be employed outside the home; or The recipient clearly lacks earning ability in the labor market. Maintenance may also be awarded if the payer committed a criminal offense that is an act of family violence within 2 years before the suit was filed, or some time after the suit was filed.
Child support is different, according to the tables if she has 4 children and she pays there medical expenses her support payment should be $2250. Check out the website i listed for more info

I as well am in Texas and was divorced in this state....if the judge grants full custody --- you are entitled to 20% for the first child and an additional 5% for an additional child....so you will receive approx 25%; however, one cannot take more than 33% of anyones income...federal law...This family member may wish to stay in this situation until the youngest child is school age otherwise, her child care bill will be enormous. Also in TEXAS we are big on joint custody (assuming both reside in the same town)...and therefore there is no child support payment made at all as custody is equally shared...this is the best experience for the children (maybe not the parents but it is best for the child)
