The whole idea of "acting methods" irritates me. Most of them , like the Stanslavsky system, or The Method (Strassberg approach), or Practical Aesthetics are all nonsense and swindles. Acting is a natural, simple activity that is innate in humans, for the entertainment industry, acting must be energetic and appealing and believeable enought to make audiences respond emotionally to the productions. For musical theatre especially, the performer must enthusiastically and energetically PERFORM his role for the entertainment of the audience. This takes a bit of exaggeration and theatricalization, more than straight drama or cinema. I encourage all aspiring actors to read Don Richardson's Acting Without Agony and my The Tao of Acting.
