If by "Christian", you mean evangelical Christian, the answer is no, he would not have been elected. if he wasn't a Christian.

The evangelicals are a large voting bloc and they voted for George with the expectation that he'd appoint Supreme Court justices who would ban abortion, give federal money to "faith based" charities and ban gay marriage. What they got so far is a minor restriction on abortion (only 5% of all abortions were by this method), a war in the middle east, a huge increase in the national debt and tax breaks for the rich.

Joseph Isadore (Joe) Lieberman, a jew, was Global-Gore's running mate.

If you believe the Democrats, Liberals, Socialists and Communists, he did win the election.

When he proclaimed that he understood the magnitude of failing in Iraq, the Democrats tried to get rid of him with a Christian Ned lamont and were content to lose that senate seat and a majority. What stupidity!
He became an independent and won again.

Given his rather small majority on both electoral occasions, it is extremely unlikely that he would have been elected to the Presidency without the support of the Bush Baptists and other supposedly Christian right wing groups, who's perception was, that he was one of their number.

As to the man himself, his belief is his own affair, between himself and his God, and none of our business or anyone else's.

Well, considering we have had 43 presidents and all of them were Christian, and 42 were Protestant, no probably not. But not for the same reasons you believe.

As it was w/ his father, George Jr. may say he's a Christian, but his actions belie his words. A TRUE Christian would never have been elected because the liberal mind doesn't want to be reminded that it's so full of manure!

As I recall, Jimmy Carter was very public about his strong Christian leanings. But I guess that was different.

Every president so far has been Christian.. so if you want a chance at President.. you probably should talk about your Christian beliefs.. just smart.

AND since it is all fantasy anyway, the one that pretends the most probably wins!

Ummm think of it this way, have we ever had a non Christian president? No. Why? America is a predominately Christian country. It's common sense.

I think it was more of his ideas than his beliefs but that is true every President has so far pretty much that I can think of. I voted for him because of his beliefs and his ideas.

Yawn. Religion should not play a role in politics. Personal views should.

I am a prochoice christian for example.
