I think we definitely ARE safer than before 9.11 but we don't FEEL safer because before 9.11 we didn't believe that something like that could happen. Now we know it can so that is scary but improved security has made us safer and we are more aware of what our enemies are capable of.

Yeah. Politics and talking points aside...at least we are actively trying to defend this country now. Prior to 9/11 this country was totally and utterly defenseless. I spent my entire time in the military telling people that it was only a matter of time before we were hit and we were lucky that the "major attack" on the US homeland wasn't a nuclear blast or a biological or chemical attack. Now that the news actually provides coverage about our enemies instead of pretending they don't exist it may seem worse. But the truth is.. as flawed as our systems may be... better a flawed system than no system at all.

No way! If anything, the world is even more dangerous now, because the war in Iraq has become a cause celebre among the Islamic fundamentalists and a whole new generation of terrorists is now being bred.

You are as safe as your government lets you be. Before 9/11, your government made many enemies. After 9/11, your government made more enemies.

I don;t think you can call that safe. How about sending doctors and teacher out to the world, rather than soldiers? Then you will be safe.

I think that we are.

A number of terrorist attacks have been thwarted. That does not mean that one or more can't slip through.
