I have 9 fish in a 75 gal aquarium. There is plenty of hiding places for the babies, they hatch and I see them swimming around but a couple of days later their gone. Do I have to leave my aquarium light on all night to keep this from happening?

Here is the best advise I can give you. When your convicts have young, keep the parents with the fry. They will protect their young. If you have a catfish in your tank, that will more then likely be the problem if your fry disappear at night.
Also the parents will weed out the weak fry by eating them their selfs. If you have other fish in there that is eating your fry, count your blessings, what the heck will you do with the fry? Sell them..... LOL I have 2 tanks full of convicts and I can't even give them to a fish store, I end up having to revert to euthanasia.

A 75 gallon tank is pretty big and im sure there are a lot of hiding places for them but it no substitute for and ocean or lake. , but unfortunately most fish have a lot of time to kill. And when there not mating or fighting they spend it looking for food. It always best to separate babies in another tank away from other fish (even there parents) until they get older. And be on the look out if some grow faster then other because they mite kill or eat there siblings as well

You should remove the fry. You can purchase little net boxes to put them in that hang over the edge of the aquarium inside. This provides protection while keeping them in 1 area. Easier to feed in there also.

considering the size of your tank it should be possible to divide the tank allowing a portion for the parents to breed and rear their young.
unfortunately some parents will eat their own young if they feel too threatened by the other tank mates so it may not even be the other fish.
try breeding them seperated ,the parents are facinating to watch as they care for them, although for large quantities to survive the best way is to fully seperate and raise the babies. good luck

i always take the babies out if they are born or hatched in my big tank, the bigger fish will eat them every time.you need a hatching box, keeps them separated.let them get some size on them before you put them back in the big tank.

with convicts you should separate the babies and their parents. the other fish will eat the babies.
convict parents will usually protect their fry unless you have some other fish twice their size.
