No, because the Queen can make any British citizen a knight (like Sir Paul McCartney), and it does not have to me a man who is related to the Queen.

I hope you are allowing us Canadians to answer. I think the "Sir" means that they have been knighted by the Queen. In my opinion it is an elitist and outdated concept, as is the monarchy.

No, but in an interesting twist, my husband LOVES to hear the words "Master Sir" as I bow down before him. And, yes, he is related to THIS queen.

ahh, come on hello world, you know as well as me- that Americans are bought up to say "Sir"- even to their parents, that's such respect- pity we don't do that in England. The Great Elvis Presley was known for keeping his respect for people- and said "Sir" to everyone- right up to his death- such a respectful man- that's what is lacking in the UK.

no sir it's just for being polite to call someone here in u.s they said that in the army when they were ask to do something they all said sir.
