No, I'm not necessarily talking about polos or anything, and nothing for work/formal-related reasons. I mean is it truly essential that a guy own at least one or two button-down collared shirts for casual wear? I don't personally own any, but others have been telling me it's 'essential'. Normally I'm the guy who enjoys life wearing graphic tees, jeans, hoodies, and sometimes a layered tee with a sweatshirt underneath. So tell me, should I get some? And if so, what's the best way to wear it? I'm 18 and enjoy life as being cool, casual, and comfortable. Thanks!

As long as you're not talking about work reasons, then no -- it's not essential.

You can still dress up your current style by simply wearing a blazer over your graphic tee.

Maybe get just one or two, loose and long sleeved. A solid, darker color, and a solid lighter color. Then, you can wear it over a tee you like, either buttoned most of the way, or just as a "cover" if you go somewhere that is more than just a tee shirt type of place. Be comfortable with yourself! That's the biggest thing!
If you're uncomfortable wearing it, then start out with it, then take it off later. Try it out...get some feedback...you won't have to ask. People have an annoying habit of telling you how they feel...whether you want to hear it or not! They will say one way or the other. Mentally take notes...don't take just one bad opinion as your answer.

Casual wear is just that--you should be able to wear what you want. Yes, collared shirts are important for certain situations, (like a job interview) but if you want to wear graphic tees and sweatshirts on the weekend, you don't "need" a collared shirt for those times.

Nowadays, in fashion terms, what's "essential" is what you like to wear. Don't let other people try to tell you how you should look.

I wouldn't say it's essential, but it's nice to have a variety of options in your wardrobe. My fiance wears collared, button-up shirts all the time. He wears like Nautica, Sean John, Roca Wear, ect... They all usually are striped and he'll get an occassional print at times. He always wears a "wife-beater" underneath, whether it be plain white, or a colored beater to match the color of the shirt. Girls like a guy that can be stylish too, even if it's not ALL the time.

You should have at least one collared button down shirt that fits you well. Get it in a classic solid color. No trendy colors or prints. You can wear whatever you want most of the time, but some occassions require you to be more dressed up. You don't have to spend a ton of money on one, you can find them just about anywhere.

What types of clothes you need depends on where you're going and what you're going to do. What you describe is perfect for class and a lot of jobs an 18 year old would hold, but as you get older you will need some more formal clothes. Buy them when you need them. Be ready for weddings and funerals though. You can plan for a wedding, but those funerals come along a the worst time and Levis and Nike's don't usually cut it at a funeral.

i in my view do no longer think of its mandatory in case you do no longer go with it to be. you're mushy in tees and denims so thats what you may desire to placed on. i think of purely magazines like GQ and info say its mandatory for each guy's cloth cabinet. Now on the social gathering which you're going out clubbing or something, this is advisable to placed on a collared shirt, yet actual who cares? in case you do no longer experience like it then dont. i've got seen countless adult adult males in collared shirts at bars and golf equipment and to tell the reality, all of them seem an identical. this is a threat to gown valuable with no need to placed on a collared shirt. base line, its no longer mandatory by way of fact until you're advised to gown up a splash then the way you gown is positive. Hoodies rock by ability of how. Oh and that i'm 24. I placed on button down shirts and polos in many cases for artwork.

It's something that can be worn with a nice pair of slacks or jeans. I personally like on a guy the collared shirt with a pair of jeans half-tucked. It looks casual and stylish.

i think that you probably should have at least one in case you need it. I like a button down shirt with a 'wife beater' underneath... but don't buckle under pressure unless you can actually see the point in having one. Just..... Do You!
