Facebook isn't totally oriented to meeting random people like Myspace is. It's more about keeping in contact with people in your network [school, college, work], and meeting friends of friends. There are groups, and by joining groups you can meet random people.
But otherwise profiles are automatically private.

Facebook is about connecting with people who are within your network, in other words your regional area. If you don't already have friends at Facebook, then you can join a school network, work network, or a geographical network. This does not mean you cannot connect with people outside you network. Facebook has tons of fun groups and with members from different networks around the world. Once you join a group, you can share ideas and meet more buddies through your different groups. In addition they have many downloadable applications that you can add to your profile page such as glitter text, games, youtube etc. much like the things you can add at Myspace, only a little more classier. You can also go to www.widgetbox.com and get different applications to add to your Facebook page as well.

To view profiles, you must first either have them in your network or as friends. To add someone, go to the search box (top left side), and type in their name. Once you have found who you want to add as a friend, on the right side, click "Add to Friends". When they accept your request to be friends, you will be able to view their profiles.
A few things to remember:
The other person might have a privacy option that limits your ability to find them in a search.
The other person has to be on Facebook. It's hard to believe, but a few people don't use this site. Send them an Invite.
Make sure to utilize the search filters. If your search is bringing up too many results, use the filters on the right side of the results page. This will allow you to better target results. You can also try the Advanced Search page.
You will get used to it in no time. =)

Facebook has added new Applications but it's not as complicated as you think. I would suggest just going on Facebook and play around with it for a while then you'll get the hang of it. In my opinion, I think Facebook is a lot better than Myspace. It has everything Myspace has to offer but more.except for designing a background for your profile. Have fun!!

Facebook is a little bit harder to find people on in my opinion. You can find people in your email address book, your High school, or your network through their "Find Friends" feature. Most of the people I had to find through my friends profiles. They didn't have facebook when I graduated, so I am not in my college "network". But once you find a few of your friends you can find others by looking at your friend's friends (if that makes any sense!) I do like it almost more than myspace now though because Facebook will give you automatic updates on your friends so you don't have to go look to see what has changed on their profiles. And you can tag your friends in your pictures and vice versa, as well as many other features. Good Luck!

When you sign up for Facebook they ask for your e mail addy. You can send out notices from your address book for how ever many e mail addresses you have, and invite them to join. The search engine is pretty easy once you get used to it. If you are just recently out of school there is a search for classmates that requires your city, state and high shcool name. The general seach will list anyone with the name you gave, or a group that is listed containing that name. I find face book a lot easier to use, it just takes a while to get used to navigatiing your way around it.

well on your home page on the right you should see 'find your friends' or 'friend finder' first click 'click here' under find your friends, type your email and password then whoever is on facebook on that you know in your email should come up. if people pop up and you want to add them click add to friends but if theres no one you want to add just click skip then all your other contacts should come up whoever you dont want to invite uncheck. Hope this helps!
