Many of the endangered birds in hawaii also become extinct due to habitat destruction. They are also prone to avian malaria and when habitat at higher elevations is destroyed they are forced to live at lower elevations were there are mosquitoes present. The mosquitoes cannot live in the high elevations due to climate. And, yes..also due to invasive species like someone else mentioned.

This Hawaiian bird was last seen in 1907,
barely a few years after its "discovery" in 1893.

It is most likely that non-native creatures
(insects, parasites, snakes, man (!),
domesticated cattle, etc) invading its habitat did it in.
