Of all the 300 million species of living creatures on earth, only human beings are paying money for food and water. As long as human beings are there on this planet earth, money is very important. Money is not everything, but money is required for everything.

Money is a form of exchange for one service for another.
If there was no monetary form of exchange like money, you would find yourself bartering your service for the service or product of another.
If you hold a job, you are exchanging your duties at work for money. If this was not the case, you would have to find someone who could use your skill or service in order to obtain the other's product or service.
So, if you were a seamstress and needed shoes, you would make a garment for the shoemaker and make the exchange.
You would also have to barter your service to obtain the materials. The shoemaker would have to do the same.
Unfortunately in this case, one or the other may have to barter more of their time than the other to complete the transaction.
Thus today, each trade is paid, in money, according to their time and/or skill in the workplace.

Because the world is run by greed and evil. If not for those things, money would be pointless, because everyone would strive to make everything better.
Example: The reason we don't have non-oil powered cars in mass production is because the oil companies are greedy ba*****s that are afraid of their collapse because they'd no longer rake in all the money they're making, so they buy off people and steal patents to the stuff so we're unable to progress into better means of transportation.
The world is desensitized to how others live and feel, because all that matters is power, and in a greed-driven, money is that power.
Meh, humans...

It costs to live. It costs money to have any kind of security and stability in your life. It costs to buy stuff that you need and would like to have. I think some people are crazy with what they have and what they buy. I think the attitude that, "I can afford it." is just a lousy and anti-social attitude for any human being to possess. I'm sure those people are miserable themselves and to the people they interact with. I believe they are responsible for a lot of what is wrong with society because everything is interconnected.

It is a form of efficient exchange. You can not efficiently work an hour for the butcher, and hour the baker, an hour for the candle stick maker. By exchanging your labor capital and/ or your mental capital for money in one place, you can purchase the things you need.

We are not self-sufficient and bartering (exchanging goods/services for other goods/services) would be too complicated in our global economy. Money makes exchanging things so much easier.
We provide labor to employers and they give us money.
We give businesses money and they give us goods/services we need or want.
That's just one VERY simple explanation.

Only because people place value on it. If people decided money was of NO value we could dispense with it and be a lot happier.
Read and learn about how money & commerce adversely affect our world.
