I have several friends that are "one issue" voters. They are pro-life and refuse to vote for anyone that is not also pro-life.

So...they vote for these folks that claim to be pro-life and then they get into office and do not do a single thing about it (which, of course, makes me happy!). These candidates shout about being pro-life during the elections, gain the support of the religious right, and then do NOTHING about it once they get in office........(Except, of course giving tax breaks to their wealthy pals while abandoning the "salt of the earth" folks that they preyed on with their lies about taking pro-life actions.)

And they do this over and over and over again.....and the pro-life voters never wise up to the fact that they are being used.....

How come?

I am not saying you are stupid....I am just saying you are being used.....You vote for them and they do NOTHING to advance your cause.

SPEWER...

Ok.....so if legislators can do nothing, how come so many folks create an irrelevant bar for their candidates?

Both parties pander to, but take for granted, their bases. The Republicans pander to the religious right in speeches and a few political appointments but never really do much about the issues. Lets face it, the ultimate goal is a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion. What issue would the Republicans have to run on if they gave them that? It is the same with the dems though. They pander to proponents of gay marriage, fair housing, equal rights, pro choice etc but do little or nothing about these issues once elected. They are non-issues but are the criteria upon which a large portion of the electorate chooses to support a candidate. Meanwhile, both parties are selling our country out to the highest bidder which happens to be China at the moment.

How come? Because a majority of the Congress is not pro-life, and because legislation to counteract Roe v. Wade would not pass.

It's not that the pro-life politicians are any less pro-life, it's just that they need to work within the framework of the system as it exists. Only the Supreme Court can overturn Roe v. Wade. Not the Congress.

Same reason all those who were elected because they were "anti-war" and claimed they would stop the war have been unable to do so.

Like who? First off the only single person that can really make a difference in abortion law is the president. He can veto any law that he doesn't agree with, or can appoint judges and supreme court justices who agree with his stance on the issue. A congressman or senator can only do so much. He can introduce a bill, or vote for or against, but if there isn't enough interest one way or another there isn't much he can do. The republicans a few months ago were able to outlaw partial birth abortions, also known as, smash the fetus head with a hammer abortion.

Abortion isn't a voter subject. it is no longer a non secular subject. it fairly is a ethical subject. Libs are against capital punishment, yet are comfortable with killing a living infant? Why? Does a 2 month previous infant choose it is mom greater or decrease than an unborn? while can a infant safeguard itself? Abortion has become delivery administration and human beings are utilising it as a fashion of no longer taking duty for their own movements. unhappy! basically undergo in techniques that for each determination you're making, there ARE effects. by way of the way. i do no longer vote republican by way of fact of Abortion. I vote for republican by way of fact i choose much less government and much less taxes. Conservatism will save this united states of america, no longer Obama's communistic ideals.

While you would probably claim that it's all about personal choice, I would argue that it's about personal responsibility and accountability. And for the record on this particular point, my wife and I are now in the process of raising someone else's child -- this is our fourth time doing so. We raise them, we love them and we teach them. Had they been aborted, we would never have been afforded these opportunities. We do it without the assistance of your tax dollars. Truly, I do not believe in abortion, but more so, I believe that it should be up to the state, not the federal government AND, our tax dollars should not be funding in any way, shape or form clinics that performs such "procedures."
You quip also about tax cuts for the wealthy and abandonment of the "salt of the earth" folks. Tax cuts? You mean to big business? Even if they'd not been given the shelter, you would still be paying for it. You don't honestly think for one minute that they would absorb the loss. They would instead pass it off to you their consumer/customer.
I was born poor. I have done quite well for myself. I take responsibility for my actions. Had you done the same, you would probably see things differently.
You should probably go back to the old chalk board and rethink your stand on a number of "issues."

Why don't conservatives overturn Roe v. Wade? Let's examine this issue:

The true fact that neither party wants to admit is that abortion does provide good things. Many aborted fetus will not become children whose parents can't provide for them. They won't become poor young adults and turn to crime. They won't be a drain on the system.

If you overturn Roe now, what will happen is that abortions will still take place, just in less sanitary conditions and possibly be people who are not trained in medicine. Girls would get infections or worse, injured by abortions that went wrong. Other girls would be forced to give birth, and create the situation outlined above. I predict that a decision to embrace a pro-life policy and force it on the people without preparing them could doom the Republican party indefinitely.

Roe needs to be overturned, but the country has to be on board and be ready to live responsibly by its actions. You can't force it overnight, it would be a disaster. It will require a lot of education and willingness from the people of the US. It may never happen, but without candidates that support the rights of the unborn, it never will.

I will never vote for a pro-choice candidate, they are accessories to murder in my opinion. There are plenty of great pro-life candidates to pick. Until Democrats stop endorsing baby genocide, they cannot have my vote.

There are hot ticket issues on both sides that really hold no meaning. I think they are trying to vote for people who share their same morals / values. They think if they are on the same page with this issue, they will be on the same page with an issue that does hold some ground.

Well what are they going to do? Vote for a prochoicer? "Salt of the earth" folks have little say in who their candidates are. All they can do is vote for the one they like the most.

Republicans get away with it because the pro-coathanger crowd don't give a damn about the babies. Anybody who has stood outside an abortion clinic or done escort duty knows that it's all about punishing scared little girls for being raped.

Pro-coathanger isn't about Life. It's about Hate. And its followers don't care if anything gets done. They just want to hear politicians tell them they're right.

The supreme court legalized abortion. Not the legislature. That's why it is an issue. and until the court overturns itself, Congress can do nothing meaningful except put restrictions on it.
