Yes it is important to have a purpose in life.. no matter what it is... I can't imagine just earning enough to live without doing something with that life!

It doesn't matter what the purpose is, so long as you have something to keep you going on... you always have to be moving towards something, improving your life, and the lives of others around you otherwise you might as well lie down and die now!

Different people have different views. What is important is what You as the individual find important and then make that your purpose in life. People that go out of their way to announce their "purpose" in life are sometimes very hypocritical. Me, ensure that my children grow up balanced and believing that anything is possible (getting there - my eldest is already 16 yrs old and knows that if he puts his mind to it - he can be what he wants), realise that a job is not the end all and be all of life - there are more things to do than just sit on your bum and create scenarios for someone else (fair enough they do pay you so you live comfortable - so a bit of effort goes in) - stop, smell the roses - and really really listen to what your true needs are - only then can you have a purpose in life.

I've spent a lot of time recently on a farm. The vacant eyed cows are content just living. They have grass and hay to eat and shade and water. Cows have no purpose in life other than that. I can't imagine us humans being like that.

I think it's important to have a 'Goal' in life.

Having a purpose in life is to feel the 'need to be needed' as a parent, carer, etc.
Without being needed a person like this can feel worthless & empty.

Live for what you want to achieve in life & don't be held back by others.

The most important purpose anyone will ever have in mortality / life is to: Do What Makes You Happy.

and Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You.

Think its very important to have a purpose. Think even though you have enough money to survive, if you dont have something to focus your energies on for at least part of the time you would become very bored and unfulfilled.

some people are lucky enough to just 'go with the flow' of life and whatever happens happens. i dont have that attitude unfortunetly because i couldnt afford to. ive always thought i had a purpose in life and thats to be a mum, its my biggest dream and i hope some day it happens. until then im just going to have to accept whatever happens happens, and learn to deal with life itself. its good to have a dream and something behind you for what you want in the future, it gives you a reason for living in some cases, then you know where your going and what your working towards.

Course it is - but job, parents and job are not purposes as far as your freedom of choice is very narrow regarding them -

When what you call a "purpose" becomes a personal commitment then
it makes sense - and your commitment goes on as long as you don't interrogate yourself too much

My purpose in life is to bring my son up being a caring and happy lad. Who will learn to enjoy life to the fullest and laugh and cry amongst good friends.

I think everyone has to have something to get up for in the morning, and to go to bed satisfied they have done something with their day. Even retired people who get a pension and dont need to work often do charity or voluntary work because they get bored.
Having loads of money is only to eat and pay bills, it does not give you any satisfaction of life.
