Well giggles, a motivational speaker who bores or depresses is working with people who have different values and goals in life.
If the speaker is talking about how to be successful and this is not a virtue or value for you, it's likely to be depressing knowing some many are afflicted with greed. How depressing is that?
A lack of motivation is generally because whatever is before is something that we don't want or don't want to be doing in the first place.
PS. I was reading something lately on the cultural aspects of smiling and laughter. I also read that people who giggle often do so out of sexual interest. ???

Because for some of the population who are procrastinators or otherwise come up with a rationale for why they can't do something, the motivational speaker pricks their conscience and makes them feel like failures for not accomplishing anything.

They need you to feel depressed or inadequate so that you'll buy into their sales pitch.
