I have traveled alone, with one friend (my husband), with a few friends, and with a lot of friends. Every kind of travel has its advantages.

Alone is a little lonely, but you interact much more with the place you are visiting with. Especially if you speak the language, this can be a very rich way to visit a place.

With a partner or good friend, you have someone to share the joy of travel with, someone to go get coffee while you wait in line, someone to help you understand some of what you see. But it pulls you away from the experience of the culture.

Traveling with a group of friends you can have a lot of fun - you are all relaxed, and you get to really hear how a lot of people react to what you are experiencing. It's great for a study group. But it tends to pull you quite a bit away from the culture that you are viewing.

I travel often, mostly alone.

I have traveled with a group of friends and with a tour group several times and I did not like it.
I think it is OK to join a tour to get to places where you can not get to alone, but I find it hard to fit into the group. And often it spoils my trip.

I never travel more than two months at a time, often I meet up with friends when underway, for one or a few days, but I like to travel alone. Meeting new people every day again.

i travelled with a big group of people and with just one close friend for six months. my advice is to make sure if you are travelling with just one person that you have a close relationship. when you travel with just one person minor irritations will turn into major problems because you are with this person 24/7. my friend and i travelled together with another group but when left alone for the last two months we constantly annoyed each other. we laugh about it now but id still say travel with a big group to make the best of a holiday. personally, i think you need to be very confident to travel alone- i know of many friends who found it very lonely at times.
