Because they're gaining knowledge and accepting reason and science.

people aren't losing faith in Christ. But, the term Christ is taking on a deeper meaning than what the fundies understand to be true.

Scripture has a coded message that wasn't tolerable to the roman government and could not be understood by the masses in the past. Today, we are seeing enlightenment and unfolding of truths long hidden by the church.

So for many people, they equate losing faith in the 'church' with losing faith in Christ. This couldn't be further from the truth. We are abandoning an outdated church to FIND Christ.

Because there is no evidence that you should have faith in him. When we knew less about the universe a god or gods seemed to be a plausible belief along with any number of other plausible but totally unfounded beliefs like flat world, that the sun goes around the earth, unicorns, or sea monsters.

Now we have learned more and have developed ways to determine fact from fiction. We are constantly challenging what we know and refining it in light of new knowledge as opposed to just accepting that what was passed down to us was right.

In this light we examine religions and ask "What evidence do you have for your god(s)?" and "What evidence supports your holy book as being accurate and not just a collection of stories or thoughts?"

Personal experience, while inspirational, can not be considered as evidence as all religions can provide it as well as people attending concerts or other motivational events.

Given that, and that there is no other evidence, one must suspend their belief or at least come up with a very good explanation as to why it is different than believing in unicorns.

By the way, it has very little to do with how the church or believers portray Christ or how any other religion portrays their beliefs - it has everything to do with the total and complete lack of evidence and the contradictory nature of the "holy books".

Well mostly because the whole story about Jesus doesn't make much sense and whenever it's told in a way to make it at least plausible it strays from the stuff that is written in the bible, which is suspect as well because of all the translations over the years.
When it's all laid out you're better off putting your faith in "Spiderman", they both have the same sort of impact on peoples everyday life.

People are getting turned off by organized religion's protrayal of Christ. I don't think they really know the real Jesus, or understand God's divine plan. It has taken me many years of prayer and study, and I still "see through a glass darkly".

I have come to one conclusion:there are only two Truths. God is ALL, everything else is NOTHING.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I think part of the problem is that the more we discover about our world/universe, the more questionable the truthfulness of the Bible becomes. Things aren't adding up and that fact is getting harder to deny.

Because their faith is wavering and this is a time of struggle. If it were easy, everyone could do it. Sometimes having faith is difficult. True believers can and do struggle, but they believe none the less.

Because the bible is ridiculous. Look, if you've never read/seen a bible before in your life and you read it now, you'd think it was a fairy tale. It's an insult to intelligence to ask anyone to believe the things written in there.

Because prayer feels like talking to a wall and I have no proof.

Because, like gays, atheists are coming out of the closet. Hypocritical evangelists like Swaggart and Baker didn't help either.
