thanks for the website info but unfortunatetly it doesn't have English to Dutch as one of the options

I do think it's rather rude to assume and /or toexpect eveyone to speak English for me, so I at least want to make the effort to ask in their language

Enter the text: "Sorry, ik spreek nog geen Nederlands." in the online text to speech demo here:
http://www.fluency.nl/
and press "spreek". You'll then recieve a mp3 of the sentence. It's a bit of a mechanical and boring voice but it's good enough to practise with.
This could be usefull too:

By the way, if you want to learn Dutch you should persist in talking Dutch with the people here. Thing is that we are so tuned to foreign languages that many of us switch to the other person's language automatically. This can be fairly frustrating when learning Dutch. Just explain you want to practise Dutch.

You may find some Walloons who do speak Dutch but you're more likely to get further speaking English, which, thanks to imported television series, blockbuster movies and pop music, is rapidly becoming the international lingua franca. You're much more likely to find a Fleming who speaks some French than the other way round (although many Flemings also speak some English, thanks to the aforementioned influences). In principle, Belgium has three official languages -- Dutch, French and German (spoken mostly in the Eastern cantons bordering Germany). In practice, there is a bit of a language divide and depending on where you end up, some might take offense if you insist on speaking the "other" language. As a complete foreigner, you will probably be forgiven, however.

It's really nice you try to speak some Dutch words, am sure everyone will appreciate that!

Translation:
Sorry, ik spreek nog geen Nederlands.

Pronunciation:
Sorry, ick sprake nog gane (the 'g' in both these words pronounced as trying to get a piece of apple out that got stuck in the back of your throat) Naderlànds.

Also, for the pronunciation of the words, check out this website:
http://www.lingvozone.com/main.jsp?action=translation&do=dictionary&language_id_from=40&language_id_to=23&word=ik&t.x=45&t.y=10

(it's not perfect though...)

It is not rude to assume people speak english.

In the large cities, almost all inhabitants (at least the natives) speak decent english.

In the rural areas and farming areas you might have a bit less people that do, but still enough to get around.

You could get a guide for those areas, to show you around and to help with translations if necesary.
