It wasn't forced upon me but my mother always encouraged it. If I had children of my own I would raise them by encouraging them to go barefoot often but not force them.

No, I was allowed to be barefoot in the house and yard, but my parents wore shoes everywhere, including inside, didn't take them off until bedtime. And I never even knew there were people who went barefoot outdoors (apart from yard and pool) until I was almost 29 years old, I thought wearing shoes was just as natural as breathing until then... when I heard of people going barefoot, however, I kicked my shoes off and I haven't worn them since! It's so much nicer barefoot, it's very sad most people here never even know it's an option.

Barefooted?
I'm 54 and still go barefooted.
This was talked about recently at my mothers. When growing up in the 60's(late 50's) from Memorial day to Labor day I wore a pair of breif shorts from time I got up in the morning until bedtime at night. No shoes,No shirt jus fun.

I wasn't raised to but I used to love going barefoot when I was a kid. I still like wearing sandals better than shoes whenever possible!
