I have a lot of stuff I want to sell (records, a telescope, bicycle, and a bunch of household items, and a car). I was wondering if others think that e-bay is worth the time it takes to set up an account, and then deal with the shipping of the item.

Shipping spawns another question. For something like a bicycle, if I say that shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, and I just walk the bike into UPS or whatnot, will they package it up and shipp it (in other words is packaging the responsibility of the buyer or seller)?

Also, what is the best way to shipp an old record album?

Shipping is usually charged to the buyer, but you should have an idea of the minimum and maximum cost to ship within the US. so when you list an item you give a range for shipping cost. Then confirm that cost with the buyer after the auction has closed.

For all the negatives, and mickey mouse stuff, there's some great values on eBay. If you know the value of what you're selling then it's not a bad place to do business.

Paypal works pretty well too.

For an album I'd get two pieces of good cardboard the size of the album--cut to fit so that you have about an inch extra along each edge. Then staple the edges and cover them with tape.

I do CDs like this all the time.

I sell small items on ebay:

and have found that it's very difficult to make a living doing so for sure.

Research what folks are getting for similar items. Advanced Search, closed bids (i forget the actual words there) will tell you what you might expect in selling price.

Shipping, I believe, would be an issue for larger items...certainly for fragile items. You'll need to determine the cost of packaging of each item and include that in your handling fees.

Good luck!
