They will keep getting quality free agents - that is the culture of the Yankees - buy up the good players so the other teams do not get them.

that will not change

I think they still shell out some money on CERTAIN free agents but they are going to develop more talent than they are going to sign for a high price, that is Cashman's plan, he has been adement about it all season long since he was given the reigns to do so, you can see it in the Sheffield trade last year, a player that is not performing to his big contract gets traded for prospects or picks, try to build from the minors like they did with Jeter, Posada, Rivera and Company. Posada is nearing the end and Rivera is quickly getting to the end so they are going to go with youth from within. Does that mean that if a true marquee left handed pitcher from the Twins is on the market they are not going to sign him to a rediculous contract, no...they will sign a few big name free agents still but not try to make a team out of everyone else's all-stars, it has not worked so far so they are going to go back to what did work!

I think they should always be willing to shell out for key free agents but hopefully they will do it more wisely and judiciously than at times in the past.

I'd like to point to the Yankees championship teams of the 1990s and how they were built of both homegrown talent (Jeter, Williams, Pettitte, Posada, Rivera, Mendosa, Ledee, Spencer) and guys from trades and free agency (O'Neil, Martinez, Brosius, Strawberry, Cone, Wells, Clemens...) The free agents weren't necessarily the most sought after ones in baseball, but they fit a certain mold and fit key needs. They managed to hold onto key talent from their farm system and get key personnel from other teams too.

I'll also point out that those teams were largely assembled while George Steinbrenner was banned from daily operations of the team because of his association with nefarious characters trying to discredit Dave Winfield. He had to let his "baseball people" do the real work and the result was 4 championships. Then he started thinking he was the brains behind the operation and got the over the hill Giambis and Johnson's who didn't work out.

Hope for the future? These guys give us hope for the present. Let's win the 2007 World Series before we think about 2008 and beyond. And we will win the 2007 World Series, knocking the Boston Red Faces out of the Division lead and possibly even the Playoff picture altogether, the Pennant, and the whole thing.

It means that Cashmen and company are getting back to building a dynasty....Jeter, Posada, Mo, and Berine were all home grown players and had look what happened combined with a few trades a couple of good pick ups on the free agent market...The need to stay focused on pitching the Yankee teams of the 90's were built around good pitching....To me its a step in the right direction

Ya, i'm yet i do no longer think of the 1st initiate would be as thrilling by way of fact the subsequent couple of starts off and then would be. he will in all probability pitch like 3 or 4 innings, although this is generally valuable to confirm him pitch. i'm a Met fan and Joba is my popular Yankee. I undergo in suggestions seeing him pitch his first time in the majors and it grow to be valuable to confirm. He has a very good fastball and has an quite stable slider besides as magnificent composure. he's going to be a super pitcher for a protracted time. He has the flair.

You're forgetting the Pitchers like:
Hughes
Kennedy
Chamberlain
Karstens
Ohlendorf
Sanchez.
I hope that the Yankees realize that they can grow a winner from within. The money has been nuts in the past few years. They probably will get into the bidding for Alex Rodriguez once he becomes a free agent.

Who cares if the Yankees keep spending millions? I want the best team they can have. It's possible that their payroll could go down since the young guys don't cost as much and I would want the Yankees to keep them. But they're still gonna have to pay Rivera, Arod and Posada if you want to keep them around too.

They're young now but once they get older and even hotter, cuz they're not even in their prime yet, I think they will be getting the big bucks too. So to answer your question No I don't think Steinbrenner/Cashman will stop shelling out big bucks. Other people on here need to stop hating that Yankees have the resources to get good players. Isn't the aim of the game to win? So obviously they're gonna do what they need to do to win. And if that means spendin a lot of dough on getting good players. Then SO BE IT!

Why would you want to stop? It's worked, hasn't it? Having young players that produce just ensures that you can sign even MORE players to ridiculously huge deals. I don't mean to bash the Yanks, but they leave a sour taste with the rest of the league. Smart baseball has them developing youth, but remember, once you shell out THAT kind of money for a payroll, players know what the owner is capable of, and will always push for bigger contracts. George has dug his own grave.
