from cleaning the sinks and the toilets. If you spray the cleaner and then use a paper towel to wipe off a toilet seat or clean the sinks with, are you at risk from getting germs from people?

Use gloves; be sure to dispose of your cleaning material. Be sure to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water when you have finished; use hand sanitizer after washing if you are really paranoid. Unless your coworkers and customers have some horrendous disease, you are no more at risk from getting sick than you are when you use a public restroom or the bathroom in a hotel.

Do you work at a fast food restaurant or a nursing home? I don't think any spray cleaner kills all the germs but if you wear gloves your hands are protected but think about what you inhale from the fumes drifting up off the toilet.

If it's a fast food restaurant, food servers are not supposed to be cleaning bathrooms. I'm not sure if you will or will not get sick but there is a lot of diseases people carry on their bottoms.

I think I'd look for another job.

Most cleaners for public areas have to "sit" on the dirty surface for about 10 minutes. Check the info on the bottles.
This is the time needed to "kill" the germs. Always follow label directions and you should be safe.
You are right to be concerned. If your company does not give you a class (inservice) on how to do this part of your job, the occupational health and safety ***. should be called. You can do this secretly. The treat is very high for you to get sick if you don't know what you are doing.

Eww! Been there, done that. I use those cheap exam gloves and do like a doctor. Remove them where they turn inside out and drop in the trash. I use paper towel when I have to and keep my hand on one side from the wipe side. Wad the towel up so no moisture come through to your hand side. Wash my hands real good with an Anti-Bacterial soap when I finished. But, most, try not to touch anything you not want even with gloves on. That like a double protection. Now I have to go wash my hands just thinking about this.

if you are worried then you can wear a mask as well as the gloves.Making sure you wash your hands well when finished. It would be better to use antiseptic wipes like detox or detox liquid for the toilet seat and normal bathroom cleaner .

This company should be reported to OSHA no company should require their employees to clean toilets and I believe it is against health and regulations laws they should only employ people that have applied for these type of jobs as you would not be covered by the company insurance, I believe they could be fined for doing this practice I would suggest you report this company or leave it is not worth risking your health in that case you could become sick and the company would not pay for your pain and suffering if you continue to clean the toilets while not employed to perform this type of job. Good Luck ! & stay safe while at work, This job is hazardous to your health

I wouldn't worry about it, some exposure to germs is good for you. It means you'll build up a tolerance and get sick less often. The cleaner you're using should be killing any germs or bacteria that are present in the bathroom . . . so once they're dead they can't harm you.
