For the same reason most comic book, comic strip or animated characters don't--to allow them to age would eventually destroy the basic premise of the strip/comic/series. I imagine few people, if any, would want to see a grown-up Archie and the gang. Nonetheless, long-running characters have to be kept contemporary so present-day audiences can relate to them. Imagine a Superman eternally stuck in 1938 and you see what I mean.

It's a timeless comic strip that will live for a very long time to come. It's just like the Simpsons...Bart has never left the 4th grade since that cartoon began. And Maggie will always be an infant. Both Archie and the Simpsons would lose their appeal if the characters aged.

I believe it is due to the fact that they all suffer from the Dickclarkesian virus, a rare and potent disorder that causes one to stop aging at the teenage years.

Named after Richard Wagstaff Clark, who is the most famous carrier of the disease.

Gotta be a pact with the Devil i tell ya! Or they would lose some appeal if they would of aged. Keeping the how they were when thought up keeps their popularity for years to come.
