It is actually a team sport with some pretty good athletes.

I would like to see you spend 3 hours in a 140 degree car doing 3G turns. Sometimes these cars actually touch at 200 MPH. If theses guys weren't athletes, they would be worn out in the first 100 miles.

In addition, what about the part of the team called the pit crew? Go out to your car right now and change a tire on your car. Be sure to time yourself. These guys can change 4 in about 12 seconds. In these 12 seconds, they add about 20 gallons of fuel and make adjustments to the car. Why don't you try taking 2 ten gallon gas cans and see how fast you can fill your car. How long did it take you? By the way, these tires weigh about twice as much as the ones on your car. How long did it take you?

This sport also takes a lot of strategy. It's a lot more than just going fast. Too fast and you use up your equipment too soon.

Most of the better teams have trainers and work out equipment at their home facility.

Just because they use different equipment, it is still a sport. I never read anywhere that it requires a ball to be a sport.

If it were as easy as driving in circles, everyone would be doing it. Some races pay over a million dollars. If you think it is so easy, why don't you take your car out there and get a quick million. Rather than ridiculing wnat you clearly don't understand, go to a race and see for yourself.

My dad use to race sprint cars and then he moved up to NASCAR and he trained hard everyday to stay in shape just so he can endure the long periods of time inside that car(mentally and physically). So, if you think it's not a sport, you can step up anytime you want and go to a NASCAR track where they have "fan ride-a-longs" you will be terrified and sick before the end of the second lap....and they go five laps.
If you want to ask a question then ask.....Why is chess a sport?
(One more thing): football, baseball, basketball athletes are a bunch of over paid cry babies that do not deserve what the have...."role models for children" you got to be kidding me!

My opinion of a sport is anything that involves competition among humans, whether they are running, swimming, on skates, hanging from a hang glider, biking, behind the wheel of a race car (auto sports) etc.

Racing has always been considered a sport. Hunting on the other hand is not much of a competition, so why is that considered to be a sport?

I think so...it's an active form of entertainment....did you know the racers actually burn calories because they're going so fast...

i guess it depends on one's definition of a sport 0.o
