why not have a data base put together of people who are travelling and those who need to travel, this could be cross referenced and matched up for destinations an times , i travell up an down the m6 regularly and have picked up numourous hitch hikers. i think this is a great idea sharing cars if you know the person has come through a regulated data base its would be safe

The Japanese (I believe) system (or once was).

All number plates contain and odd or even number and on certain days of the week (not weekends) only the odd, or the even cars can be on the road.

Toll booths into cities whereby the charge scale varies from a higher charge for one person cars and no charge for a full car.

Lower road tax for proven car share in eco friendly vehicles.

There are many possibilities if people are serious about conserving energy for the future.

I don't want to share my car. If I wanted to share my journey into work I would get the bus/train. Sharing a car means relying on other people to be punctual. I also finish / start work at different times.
This is just another way of trying to drive us off the roads and is in the same bracket as congestion charging.
If the powers that be want less cars on the road then they should provide decent and affordable public transport. As that will never happen in Britian I will stick to driving my car to work....alone. Thank you

Wouldn't it be better to do something about house prices so that people can afford to work close to home.
In the town where I live if you work in the town you do not get paid enough to be able to buy a house in the town so most of the people who live here commute towards London every day while the people who work here commute into the town from the north.
And then we wonder why there are so many cars on the road

By not having silly people trying to plug the Norwich Union! NU Direct is a **** company.

Car sharing is perfectly legal and covered in insurance policies provided there is no element of profit.

The problem occurs of course when both drivers want to use the car on the same day for different purposes. 'Meus et Tuus'.

A car represents freedom - very difficult for people to give up one of the few freedoms they still have these days.

Stop selling cars.

Make 15 years or 150,000 miles the life of a car. (you could extend the cars life if you were the current owner and it hadn't exceeded the 150,000 limit. Once it hit 150k scrap it.
Gets rid of the old polluters. And it make people need to conserve the mileage. The car companies could then build in obsolescence and provide lifetime servicing. And a scrap value at the end of the cars life.

Toll roads and a massive hike in petrol prices. Car sharing will split the cost.

Should'nt we be encouraging using Public Transport, how about starting by getting the Goverment to use all of the road fund taxes to supplement Public Transport.

Insurers could setup a website that puts people who want to go from similar postcodes to similar postcodes in contact with each other.
Members of this website would then get cheaper insurance and tax.
Also, incentives for employers to organise lift sharing schemes would work. Perhaps lower insurance for their company vehicles like lorries.

By solving worldwide crime and everybody loving everyone else. We'd all get along and petrol would be delivered to our homes for free....

I really only want friends or family in my car...or possibly a workmate if it didn't inconvenience me.

In the end 99% of driver have the attitude, including myself...MY car - MY space - MY money - MY life - MY priorities.
