I don't wish to offend anyone but I have read sensible reviews of Pavarottis' life and his singing career (without doubt a brilliant voice)has been in decline for some years before last week.Other stars who were failing until dying include Marc Bolan,Elvis,Marvin Gaye who are now revered. I'm sure there are many more.

Well, it's obvious that once someone dies, it is in poor taste to continue to talk bad about them. Also, it depends on how that person died. John Lennon, for example, had just released an album in 1980 that wasn't getting great reviews. And let's face it, when compared to some of his more important work in the 70's, Double Fantasy is very much a pop album. But, then he was murdered outside his home, and the album suddenly got great reviews and shot to the top of the charts. And John was seen as a martyr, and quickly became the most popular member of the most popular band of all time.

There are many many examples of artists (painters, actors, filmmakers, musicians, etc.) who became much more popular after their deaths. It's sad, but many times a tragic death is a great form of publicity.

The best example is Tupac, he died years ago and yet is still releasing 'new' material all the time!! As for Pavarotti, many critics say he peeked a few years ago, maybe so, but he was still the best of he genre and will be difficult to replace, therefore his sales will shoot up. I actually considered buying a Pavarotti album the day after he died, just becuse of all of the media attention probably, needless to say, i haven't.

Well same thing happened with Steve Irwin, since he passed away he has become much more loveable. I never really was a fan, he was OK, but when he died I was so shocked and even cried many times, he was a just great guy and now he is a legend and has a place in peoples hearts forever, much more so than if he had continued on with his life and gradually retired.

James Dean, Monroe, Elvis, JFK are all famous BECAUSE they died. If Jimmy Dean was alive today, what would he be? Just an old man, who was cool fifty years ago. In dying he will always be remembered as a virile young man.

yes, it is a very good carear move to die, especially young, the whole live fast die young ethic. for example look at the legend that is now diana; elvis is worth a hell of a lot more dead than he was alive, ditto james dean, and marylin monroe. death turns them from star to icon.
