I still reckon that Jezza's mark was the best one I have ever seen.

I also believe you have to take into account the different era the mark was taken in. Back in those days players were part time. These days the train train every day and earn huge salaries, which makes it all the more a great mark. That mark was 20 or 30 years ahead of its time.

Oh it's tough. I'll give it best flying mark ... best ride if you like! Two others that come to mind include a Dunstall mark where he led straight through two other players bowling them over to take a low down mark, and a Gary Ablett Snr arm wrestling finger-tipper. But Jezza's was also in the middle of the field that made it a bit different.

it is definitely the best and most popular mark. when kids take screamers they're always screaming 'jezza'. the toyota ad could have chosen any mark but it chose this one because it is the best. not only is it the best, it was the pivotal factor in turning around a 44-point deficit in the grand final to inspire the blues to victory. this mark could not have come at a better time for the blues. the most instantly recognizable mark in the history of our great game.

Best is a subjective word. You may as well ask what is the best colour?
Jezza's mark was great and is still remembered 37 years later, but I can't help but wonder whether that was because of the game it occurred in.

Jezza's mark was awesome. Gaz over Gary Pert was labeled the "mark of the century". I was at Colonial Stadium when Gary Moorcroft had his "total horizontal mark", it even made highlight packages in America, even though the ESPN goons here in America didn't understand what was going on. I have seen the picture of the statue at Freo oval of the Gerovich mark. If anyone knows of a better photo or YouTube type clip of it, please post it. Here is the wikipedia link for speccies.

I found the picture of the Gerovich mark at full points footy, here is the link. Looks like a fantastic mark, thanks for the head's up, MulgaBob.

The one John Gerovich took over Ray French (South Fremantle Vs East Fremantle) in the 1950s made Jesaulenko's mark look like something out of the Sunday leaugue.
At that time there were lots of good footballers across the country - the VFL didn't have a monopoly on good players.
Check the photo of this mark. I haven't looked but I'm sure one could google it - one can get just about anything else there!

No way, the best mark was gary ablett
in the 89 grand final against the hawks
when he took that one handed mark and
was head & shoulders above the rest of
any player.

yep a legendary mark, personally not the best ever,I'm with richofev-shaun smiths was a ripper, his feet were level with Gary Lyons head and it was like he was standing on top of him.
also id throw in one of cappers marks, where he jumps on (i think langford)and ends up laying horizontal across langfords shoulders then marks the ball in one arm-freak.
