Iraq, Darfur... there are likely to be others not as well known. So may refugees with nowhere to go, and nothing to live on or even for sometimes...it's a d*** shame. Wars have caused this of course.

In terms of natural disasters, I'd rank the 2004 undersea earthquake and resulting tsunami and the hurricane season of 2005 as the worst so far, and in that order.
Man-made disasters would have to be the genocide in Darfur, the war in Iraq, and the destruction of the Twin Towers six years ago today. All three have taken a ghastly toll in human life, so deciding the "worst of the worst" is not a judgment I'm prepared to make.

I think it would be the tsunami, darfur, huricane katrina, or 9/11.
WW2 and anything from 1900-1999 was from the LAST century, not from this one.....
Unfortunately, its too early to tell wha tthe greatest tragedy of this century is - we have 93 years to go and things are getting worse all the time....
