I have IBS and am still trying to work out what i can and cant eat.

The fact that it's fibre sounds like it could help but do you think it will make my stomach bad at the same time. I get horrible cramps when I eat certain things and am terrified to try some things again because it hurts sooo much!

I have been to my doctors and am due to go again when i can get and appointment (they really are useless!) and they have only given me Fybogel for now which doesnt help so I want to try to increase my dietary fibre more to reduce the bloating I get and the uncomfortable feeling when i eat.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Also milk can affect my stomach but it's mainly full fat and semi-skimmed so I'm going to drink skimmed milk so it should be fine.

IBS is challenging. While increasing your fiber intake can and usually will help you, it should be done very GRADUALLY...and usually takes trial and error to find out which kinds of fiber might trigger your pain.

Some foods bother one person, but another person has no problem with them...so it's difficult to predict.

Fruit can be aggrevating, but at the same time it can be helpful, too. Sometimes, it's just the time of day that you consume certain things. Eating late at night (or more than 3 hours before you go to bed) can cause pain for some people.

It's REALLY important to drink a lot of water when you are increasing your fiber intake, or you can get cramping. You need the water to push things along and keep you hydrated. Even if you aren't increasing your fiber, you will find that if you can drink more water you will have less pain.

I'm sure they told you to try to keep a log of what you are eating, time of day, and how/if it effects you. This seems like a lot of trouble, but it is worth it. You WILL start to see a pattern, and it will help you.

Also, stressful situations often aggrevate your symptoms. So even foods that normally wouldn't bother your condition can cause cramping. Try to keep yourself out of stressful encounters whenever possible.

Good luck.

Personally, i would use a bowl of fruit and fibre with skimmed milk as a small snack which i would have at breakfast OR before bed. So i think you should have a nice hearty bowl of it (after all, its literally full of fibre). I wouldnt worry about exercising before bed either especially if you have ate, it could make you feel bloated. xoxo

I would suggest you try adding a little to your normal cereal, increasing daily as long as it does not upset you. IBS is a huge problem because many people react differently to certain foods. One patient I knew could only eat 'junk food' without problems - which is completely contra-indicated but Burger King were happy! Just take anything new gradually and then you can better assimilate the effects without the pain and discomfort.

I think the wheat in the flakes is more likely to give you gip. I swear to you, if you have IBS, give up wheat (cakes, bread, pasta, anything with flour in) for a week and you will notice the difference.... (also, give up coffee and tea and cola - not good)

The best thing to do is to have a little detox - start off with plain things like rice and chicken and add new things gradually - that way you can eliminate the irritants.

Also, eat lots of bio yogurt and take some acidophilus tablets. your gut will thank you for it :-)

You will need about 6 months on the fibrogel.Olive oil for cooking, garlic in your food, plenty of fibre, you will be very windy, eat tomatoes, fruit, not pealed. You will find it will disappear, but don,t forget to excercise.I suffered badly from it but am now having no problems, good luck, but have patience, nothing happens over night.

Fruit and Fibre should be fine but milk is probably a no-no. I would suggest you switch from cow's milk to soya milk as it's often the lactose in cow's milk that causes the intolerance.

Only you can find out what suits you and what doesn't. Even the best doctors can't guess or divine your food allergies. And too much fiber can cause more bloating. I think you should try small quantities of foods and see what suits you and what doesn't. Also NAET may help you.
