Britain's Sky News reported that Portuguese police have found DNA evidence — a full match — indicating that Madeleine's body was in the trunk of a car the McCanns rented five weeks after her disappearance.

Two samples of DNA were taken from the hire car that the McCanns had. The one taken from the boot of the car, did NOT present a 100% match. The one taken from the inside of the car, DID.
NO ONE in the case so far, is right OR wrong. The McCanns have not been charged yet. That does not mean they will not be, it doesn't mean they will be.
But one thing is assured, the case is not over yet by a long shot.

According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6988485.stm "Portuguese police have played down reports that DNA evidence with a 100% match to Madeleine was found in her parents' hire car." In other words they're backing down.
Pleased to hear it.
EDIT - nb my link is to an article posted today - Tuesday, 11 September 2007, 09:09 GMT 10:09 UK - not yesterday or last week. Please note that news is just that, 'new', so today's news is a better source than yesterday's. Newspapers go to print in the night and what they report may be overtaken by events by the time the paper hits the newstands.

Maddie shares very similar DNA with her siblings and perhaps it was their blood found. The twins have been in the rental car many times and it's entirely possible that they may have had a scratch or nosebleed etc - toddlers do tumble around. Also, it's important to realise that DNA is easily transferable - if the parents touched some of Maddie's possessions then packed the car for their trip to see the Pope then her DNA could have be passed to the car's storage areas. Sure, it's speculation on our parts but nothing wrong with that, even the police are speculating on various scenerios.

I also read this on the Mail website earlier, as i said from the discovery of this evidence, WHY would the authorities allow the McCanns to still drive around in said car if it was vital evidence?Did not add up from the beginning

6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Its a very sad situation no matter what way it goes.
It changes from day to day, and I dont think we'll really know until a proper investigation is underway to focus on the parents and their movements. I dont think anyone has the right to rub their hands with glee just yet, remember theres still the issue of finding a missing 4 yr old, how awful would it be if it was her parents, and if it wasnt, shes still missing and will anyone ever know what really happened to her...? So so sad.

On BBC news and Sky news yesterday it said that 2 samples of DNA were taken from the car. One of the samples was only partially matched to Madeleine's DNA and therefore, I presume it was inconclusive, but the second sample was 100% match to Madeleines DNA.

So its not a 100% match. That doesn't explain the smell that the sniffer dogs picked up, or the 80% match, does it?

No evidence of an intruder in the apartment. However thoroughly the McLiars have washed everything down, got their stories straight, used the "Tapas 9" as alibis or perhaps more, I remain convinced that they'll have slipped up on something - just one tiny thing is all it'll take to blow their lies right out of the water.
