I do NOT, - as a rule, - get emotional, when I hear my OWN National Athem, (UK - God Save the Queen) played, but, - for SOME strange reason, - the "STAR-SPANGLED BANNER" of the United States of America, brings out a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT reaction!

THAT piece, can, - INSTANTLY, - reduce me, to a SOBBING, - QUIVERING, WRECK!

This, - I think, - goes back, to an incident, - almost TWO YEARS AGO, now!

I was taken, on HOLIDAY, to FLORIDA, and, - before we WENT, - I set myself TWO "AMBITIONS", that I wanted to achieve, out there! Firstly, I wanted to SEE, - in "CLOSE-UP", as it were, - a "LIVE" example of a BALD EAGLE, - a bird, which, - for MANY YEARS, - I have, actually, described as "THE KING OF THE SKIES"!

My SECOND "AMBITION" was to witness, for myself, the PLAYING of the "STAR SPANGLED BANNER", - although, - to THIS day, - I have NO IDEA, as to WHY!

On the THIRD DAY, of our holiday, we went to the "ANIMAL KINGDOM", and, - as we watched one of the shows, - the guy on the stage, put on a huge leather GAUNTLET! He held up his arm, and, - apparently, from "NOWHERE", - BANG! - a humungous male BALD EAGLE swooped in! At ONCE, when I SAW it, - at the age of FORTY TWO, - I CRIED, like a BABY!

Then, - as our family, - my Mother, my Sister, my brother-in-law, and I, - walked OUT of that area, all was QUIET, - so, we STOPPED, for a while, - just to find out what was HAPPENING! There was some form of a "FLAG-RAISING" ceremony happening, and, - as the flag was raised, - the BAND struck up, PLAYING the "STAR-SPANGLED BANNER"! Everyone, - including ME, I hasten to add, - took off our HATS, and jumped to "ATTENTION"! That's NOT EASY, for me, - as I'm in a WHEELCHAIR! Within SECONDS, my TEARS FLOWED, - PROUDLY, - as I SANG as MUCH as I KNEW, of the words!

A middle-aged gentleman SAW this, and, - as the Anthem ENDED, - wandered OVER to us! Placing a HAND, gently, on my shoulder, he SMILED, and asked:- "WHAT STATE, AR YOU FROM, SON?"

Looking up, into his EYES, I replied:- "SIR, - I'M NOT, ACTUALLY, AN AMERICAN CITIZEN! I'M HERE, ON HOLIDAY, FROM ENGLAND!"

He looked TOTALLY STUNNED! Then, he SMILED, again, - held out a HUGE RIGHT HAND, - and, told me:- "IF THOSE TEARS ARE ANY REFLECTION OF HOW YOU FEEL, - PLEASE, - CONSIDER YOURSELF, AN HONORARY AMERICAN CITIZEN, FOR THE DURATION OF YOUR STAY!"

It was only, THREE days LATER, - after I cam HOME, to the UK, - that I saw a PICTURE of the man, I had spoken to, in one of our National newpapers!

THAT man, was NONE OTHER, than DICK CHENEY!

of direction no longer. that's purely an instrumental rendition of the national anthem. A Spanish-language national anthem, in spite of the undeniable fact that, could be considered as reinforcing cultural and linguistic ties to an area united states of beginning different than the U. S.. in addition to, English is the de facto valid language of the U. S. (even whether that's not unique as such by our rules), and acquisition of the English language is seen an significant step of the naturalization technique. In different words, in case you do no longer talk English, you won't be able to be a citizen, which might clarify why some human beings could be offended by a rendition of the national anthem sung in Spanish or the different language as properly English.

Oh, boy -- at the Olympics, and all those kids working their little hearts out, and finally they make it to the top and hear their national anthem -- that makes me all teary-eyed.

I think it's the combination of naive hopefulness for the future, and the cynical recognition that maybe that hopefulness is for nothing. And that goes not just for the Olympics -- for other endeavors as well. But the national anthem at, say, a pro ballgame, doesn't really make me get weepy.

God Save the Queen does tend to pluck at the heartstrings, though.

When I'm in a large crowd like at a football game or something and the National Anthem is sung, I always tear up. There's something about the togetherness of us all standing with our hands on our hearts. I don't know!

Only when i hear Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau sung properly at a rugby match when the players have actually bothered to learn the words.

I hate it when you see them playing for their country (more often than not just playing for Wales because it pays more than another countries rugby side!) and they don't know the words to the anthem. Kind of defeats the object of singing it if you ask me. The words are so beautiful and tell a wonderful story that should give them the motivation to play as well as they can but nooo... they dont even bother trying most of the time and just stand whilst the crowd sings! it's a disgrace to the Welsh culture.

I don't well up at all.
I think "God Save the Queen" is an absolute dirge and very depressing but it doesn't want to make me cry.
"Flower of Scotland" though not a national anthem, is much nicer and more upbeat.
I'm not being racist here or anything, just talking about the actual tunes.

I love a good national anthem! They are composed with the express purpose of inspiring emotion, and the vast majority do it very well, although some of the African and South/Central American ones can be a little quircky and over long

i get goosebumps first, then begin to get a bit teary eyed. not because it's our national anthem, but because it makes me realize what others have been through and given up so i can have the life that i have. complete strangers made it possible for me to live in a free world!~♥~

I only get sentimental when I see a large group of people singing it with passion - at Sports events for example.

Don't know why really - I think it is the feeling of everyone in harmony together.
