I assume systems relates to computers.

I have to agree with you, 'THE BOOK' is not a sufficient explanation, so let us solemnly blame DDC :)
The 002 may refer to materials that have subjects on:
- writing
- paleography (ancient writing)
- libraries
- bibliographies
- books (designing books, making of books, bookbinding, etc.)
Therefore, a book titled 'Handmade books: a step by step guide to crafting your own books' can be classified under DDC 002.

I don't know what "the book" is, sorry, but used to know the Dewey decimal system well; remember 200s as being bios. Maybe 002 is that huge book put out every year that lists all books and authors known to whoever compiles that book...
EDIT: and I agree with Nicki, it's best to call the reference librarian.
