Hey, I'd just enjoy the instant "coolness" that comes from stupid stereotypes. Me? All I get is the dumb white girl stereotype - LOL. Seriously though, it's an interesting question that deserves merit.
I honestly think it could be because white people shunned black people for so long that black people formed their own subculture. They had their own movies, music, sports, etc. and quite frankly, they kicked white butt in some of these areas. White people took notice of their subculture and it wasn't such a joke anymore because some things DID seem genetically favorable towards the black race. White people were the outsiders looking in at the smaller subculture thriving in our midst...and we were constantly reminded it was created FOR blacks and we felt ostracized which made some of us want to be part of their subculture even more. You want to be part of something you are excluded from - it's human nature.
Man, I'm philosophizing too much...but that's my theory. From an "uncool" white girl. :-)

More importantly...why don't you? Malcolm X, Denzel, Samuel L.,Rosa Parks, OPRAH, Morgan Freeman, Condoleeza Rice, ( a true Genius..graduated college at 19), Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas,Dred Scott, Mohammed ALi, Micheal Jordan, Nat King COLE, Miles Davis, Duke ELLINGTON, Sounds like you are the one caught up in the stereotype. There are just as many cool African Americans as any other race. Sounds like you need to get away from those losers, nontheless black people do kick ***....just not in the way your friends may think!

I don't think people do label black people as cool. It is just that a lot of people who happen to be black, have what is considered a cool lifestyle of personality. Rappers are obvious examples of this.
Other people simply ooze cool. Samuel L.Jackson for example. Is he cool because he is black? Probably not.

no, you're right. but i think a lot of people believe black people are really 'hip', you know, 'with it'. it also may partly be that people are trying to be friends with the black community so they want to give encouragement to the black race after so many years of sufferage. my roommate is black and she is very nice, so i am exposed to the black culture and i like black people. i like everyone else , too, though, so whatever! i like everyone.

I don't know why. Some white people can be cool. I guess because they can be thuggyer, gangsta, rappers, pimpin' in the look, flashy, wear ALOT of jewels, fast, though, fearless (in fights), some have more booty (some guys like that on a girl), known to wear clothes that don't cover much more then white people do.
My guess.
