It's a risk assessment thing, like insurance rates . . . people with bad credit are higher risk.

Because a credit history can speak to character too. You dont pay your bills how does the landlord know you won't trash the place since you can't be responsible for things in your own life? Furthermore everyone does need a roof but people who have worked hard to buy something themselves are not required to let you stay there harsh reality there are always shelters.

People that are deadbeats do not pay their rent first. A deadbeat doesn't pay anyone and that's why I run a credit check. I have a right to know if someone pays their bills or just thinks that they have the right to move in and then not pay when it isn't convenient. Why would I want to rent to someone that cannot manage their money and has no morals about not paying especially over someone that has always paid their debts? Why does every deadbeat with all that bad credit think that landlords have to tolerate them? Pay your bills and you will be able to rent a decent place. People that do not pay their bills are thieves. Not paying your rent is stealing from the owner. Why do you think you have the legal right to move in anywhere you choose? Only a deadbeat would think like that. . . Even insurance companies are wising up to the basic character of deadbeats. Deadbeats now pay higher insurance rates. Deadbeats just seem to have a bad track record in everything they do. . .legal right to rent whereever they please. . .get a grip on reality. . .

Because usually your credit history dosen't lie. When people are looking for apts, they are the nices most sweetest people and gurantee your rent will be on time. But when they move in, they turn to Mr. Hyde. They stop paying rent, things always seem to be broken in the apt. It is legal for one reason because the landlord is basically granting you credit to occuppy the apt or home. While you are in the apt, you can possibly cause $50,000 worth of damage and landlords genrally try to lower their risk by looking for people with, ok credit and with a solid job history. So in the event if the tennant destroys the apt or home the land lord can sue and try to obtain some of the cost back the he or she will hath spend on repairs.

NOPE - people who are irresponsible with their money are irresponsible in every way. They don't suddenly become responsible when it comes to their living expenses.
It's hard to get someone kicked out when they don't pay rent - sometimes the process can take up to 6 months through the courts, and there's no guarantee the landlord will get their money. People ahve even quit their jobs so the landlord can't garnish their wages, meaning they have to go back to court when they find out where the loser works.
You woudln't believe to what extremes people go through when they want to get a free ride.
Start being responsible with your money or live with mommy and daddy. Nobody HAS to let you mooch off of them, why would you expect that from a landlord? That's a ridiculous thought!

As a property owner myself, I do credit checks as security on my behalf.......no, not everyone always pays. Although a credit report doesn't necessary tells of a person's intentions, it does let the landlord know if this person is responsible.

If that were true there wouldn't be so many evictions. Unfortunate but true.
