Come on now, even if you republicans want us in Iraq for whatever reason you do. I want one of you to admit that the goal line on Iraq keeps moving around. You can want to be in Iraq, just admit that you are willing to say anything to make sure we do.

War is not something that is static, it is constantly changing and evolving. That's why the marines say "Improvise, adapt and overcome."

to US DR JD above,

Of course war is a political issue! In our country and under our system that is the only thing it can be!!!

The armed forces are only ever supposed to be used as the policy makers(elected by the people) decide. Thank God we aren't governed by a military junta(yet).

The goal lines being constantly moved are those reasons this particular set of policy makers gave us to justify the war and the engagement of our armed forces in the invasion and occupation of a foreign country which had not attacked us.. As each one of hese excuses is proved false, wanting or insufficient, they create a new one.

Considering the Civil War was suppose to be over in just a few months, and after D-Day the Allies expected to be in control of Berlin by Christmas of '44, I'd still be hard pressed to consider either of those conflicts failures. War cannot be won in a few hours, contrary to Hollywood movies. You can't set a deadline, you can't make plans like this was a weekend holiday. War is not to considerate as to work around one sides schedule.

You are looking at war as a political issue. Whenever politics get overly involved in combat, people get killed. It has happened in every conflict the world ever had. If service members were allowed to do what they are trained to do, then the wars wouldn't last as long, but when politicians, Republican or Democratic, get involved, they change the rules of engagement and soldiers are handicapped.

To paraphrase a famous quote by an American General," We [soldiers] are not concerned with the making of wars, only fighting them. "

War tactics have to change constantly in order to counter the enemy's tactics. They are never the same unless you want to be obviously consistent to the other side.

I'm mainly responding to ninja rabbit's answer because your question is incoherent.

Maybe when the liberals stop thinking of war as a game, you can all get on the same page as the rest of us that support the troops.
