I used a test this morning and followed all instructions to see whether i have enough FSH or not and it showed all fine, but it said it must be done on the morning of day 3. On Saturday i had a tiny show of brown stuff but always do the day before i actually start my period properly. Should this have been counted as day one, therefore making today day 4 and the test not correct?

The instructions did say count the first day of spotting or bleeding as day one though. Would you call that spotting?

Well here's my take...

Day 1 of your cycle is usually the first day of full red flow. If the instructions said to count spotting, then you should go with that. But I wouldn't consider brown discharge as spotting. They probably mean red spotting.

Good luck.

Day 1 is the first full day of your period. Spotting doesn't count as a full day of bleeding. Brown blood is old blood usually left over from previous cycles (or during pregnancy exams and things of that nature).

Cycle Day 1 (CD1) is the first day of proper RED bleeding of your period.

I would not count the brown spotting before your period starts. Count the first day of real red bleeding as CD1.

The day you start your period is considered cycle day 1(CD1). I wouldn't count the brown spotting as day one. I have the same thing, and never count it.

Day one is the day your period starts properly. You were correct to count it as Sunday rather than the day before.

I hope you conceive soon.
