I am watching a news report now, and so far in a 2 minute "piece of news", she must have said "er" about 10 times.

Shouldnt they be a little more professional than that?

I guess you can call me old fashioned, but I sort of expect some professionalism. My god, if I was to speak on the phone (doing my job) constantly saying err and um people wouldnt take me seriously.

Nice rant botticellilady!

I quite agree...the BBC's 'Royal Correspondent' Jennie Bond used to do my head in. Now it's Natasha Ker-plunkski that makes me grind my teeth!

Er. I know what you mean. I don't think they ever got it right though. I'm so glad we don't have the stiff upper lipped, posh, news readers of yesteryear.

It always amuses me when you see the studio anchor ask a question of the "on the spot reporter" and it is so obvious that they know the answer already.

Jenny Bond - Nicholas Witchell eek.

Hi Rich T: Professionalism in many areas went out of the window YEARS ago! Lowest common denominator every time!

When I was little news readers would sit there and solemnly read the news. It was a service they provided in supplying us with the news.
Now they are just entertaining us. What do you expect?

quite agree with you! i also get fed up with the familiarity they try to imply, as though they are your friends. i watch the news to find out facts- not supposition as is now the case! tv news is just another form of speculative newspaper journalism. i prefer to go online and regularly check out news from around the world. it is surprising how much we in england don't get to hear about!!!!! and don't get me started on the out door broadcasts and weather reports!!! waste of licence money on the bbc-sticking some weather woman by a lake or elsewhere-why????? keep her in the office and broadcast the facts as given to them by the met-office. by the way we don't have weather in cornwall apparrantly as somones bum is always covering our region!!! and they tend to be pregnant women who block out devon as well!!!!!

Maybe she was feeling a bit nervous? Is she new? Or maybe there was some technical problem behind the scenes that was spooking her?
