I personally don't think it would be any more credible than my current perception, but the general opinion would be a little more open minded if not for the curious timing of Bush's visit.

I guess Bush has gotten numb to the feeling of shooting himself in the foot... or shooting his general in the foot in this case.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said: "As Congress prepares to take our next steps in support of our troops, we are faced with a critical choice. Will we ignore the progress we've made and play politics with the security of our nation, or will we finally listen to the generals?"

Inside the crowded congressional hearing room, Rep. Tom Lantos, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Petraeus his proposal amounted to only a "token withdrawal" after years of war.

"What I recommended was a very substantial withdrawal," the general replied evenly from the witness chair, his uniform adorned by four gleaming general's stars and nine rows of medals. "Five Army brigade combat teams, a Marine Expeditionary Unit and two Marine battalions represent a very significant force."

Criticized in advance by some opponents of the war, the general went out of his way to proclaim his independence. "I wrote this testimony myself. It has not been cleared by nor shared with anyone in the Pentagon, the White House or the Congress," he said.

General Petraeus could hold his hand over a Bible, be hooked up to a lie detector, and be chock full of sodium pentathol and the left still wouldn't believe him because he isn't bringing the doom and gloom report they wanted to hear. Not to mention, he's calling for troop withdrawels in spring, instead of asking for more troops. It's the Dems worst nightmare.

He was hired to write a story! And Patreaus and the white house have tried to get the GAO, which does not agree with the General or Bush, to change their report!

I would believe the GAO and not one of Bush's cronies!
