Im gonna most likely buy a vid card soon, either a GeForce 8500GT or 8600GT, but im wondering if i can install on my XP, use it for a couple of months, then get a Vista computer, and also put the same card on that computer. Help greatly appreciated.

Yeah, sure. ANYTIME. Geforce 8xxx series are DX10 cards that work well w/ DX9 in XP. I'm currently running a factory overclocked 8600GT on XP SP2.

Yes you can use the card on either XP or Vista. Had an 8500GT and ran no problems at all with XP. Then tried running it on Vista and had to do a driver hunt to get it to work. Once I had the right driver it worked too.

Not sure if I would buy an 8500 again through, it was a pretty weak card. I'd either go with an 8400 if I wanted to save money or an 8600 if I wanted to play any games. The 8500 is in a tough spot.

Before buying your video card make sure you can get the drivers for "Windows Vista" (either from Internet or the driver CD that comes with your video card). Use that driver when installing under "Windows Vista".
