I'm Italian and I find yr question really peculiar.
I'm white as well it's white skin the majority of Italians.
However a lot of us have tanned skin (mainly in summertime....!!) that may look olive to you and just people of the southern Italy (that have been mixed with africans-arabs) have a darker skin but on the whole we are of white race.

Most Italians consider themselves white and become angry if you say otherwise. I used to think Italians weren't white because of the social aspect when I was younger. Telling my Italian mother's side of the family that one day made them go in an uproar. The most olive, darkest skinned family members on that side were enraged by that comment, defending every last bit of white blood they had. However, they did tell me that Siclians had moorish ancestry, whether they do or not is debatable depending on who you ask.

It's the same with hispanics. Hispanic is not a race, however, most hispanics are mestizo, white, mulatto, or tri-racial. But even the social aspects have white hispanics claiming not to be white or some hispanics claiming there is a "latin race". (I'm half Puerto Rican and I have some family members defend any last bit of white in them despite their Taino/Indian ancestry while others totally disregard that and believe there is just a "latino race" that suddenly sprouted out). Even in high school, I had a white Cuban friend who claimed he wasn't white just because he's hispanic and Cuban. Socially, he is correct, but technically, he looked no different from the next Caucasian person, hispanic or not. (He had light, pale skin, brown hair and blue eyes).

I lived in Italy and saw all races. Nationality and race have no connections any more. Many South Africans are the decendents of Dutch settlers.

So it is.

Nationality isn't related at all to "race" or gentic ancestorship.
Culture, languages, habits, customs are passed by appraisal and education , not by blood.

This has to be true for al the world.
