my friend n i were having this discussion yesterday n we were wondering abt this...so suppose my phone is switched off, n to open it i need to know the security code..so is it possible for an average person to read the messages n contacts in the phone if he/she is a stranger n is checking ur phone? (like someone told me it can be done by connecting the phone to the computer??? ) also if not so, then to what extent can one go to switch on the phone (without asking the owner about the code)??

You cannot access a cell phone if it has a security code and if you dont know that code. You are given a specific number of chance to try the code to change settings like cost center. If you cross the number of trials and dont get the right code then your phone is locked. You cannot access the phone even if you later try the correct code. You will have to contact you service provider and ask for a PUK no. as the phone will ask you for the same. This PUK no. is very confidential. Each user has his specific number. If this number leaks out then your phone can be misused. Data can be tampered by any one who has your PUK number. Your bills can be affected. Hackers can also use your phone through that PUK no.

Other wise if it the simple security code to lock your phone then unless the right code is entered you cant access the phone.

Hope i've cleared your doubt!

by using computer they can because of the software available. but for a normal man it is just not possible until he is a expert. there r also some default code that company provides to open the cell if someone forget the code.
