im black, but i always feel uncomfortable around some black people..not all..just a specific kind..the ones who thinks if its not rap then its for white people, wear their jeans hanging off their ***, use alot of slang, the ones who would rather spend $200 on sneakers before paying their rent...i use to go to school with those and they would always treat me different and id feel really uncomfortable..and today at school i asked one of them a question and you could cut the tension with a knife..it was really akward..i just dont like them..i went to school with a bunch of them last year and i swear everything that came out of their mouth either involved sneakers or something about LES (a gang)..is this normal..the way i feel?

I am sorry to tell you that the people you are describing aren't hood rats. The term Hood rat is used to describe a type of female who can't see beyond the "HOOD." Also, if they are kids in school, unless it is an extreme case, they aren't paying rent. If you are in high school you need to pay more attention to your education, then to what someone else is wearing or saying. When I was in high school, most teens only talked about sneakers, music, and either guys and girls.
You are still young, so your surroundings might be a little limited. People usually stick to what they know or what they are accustomed to when they are young. I was different, but I didn't look down on people who only listened to a certain kind of music, or dressed a certain way. I would also like for you to know that this happens in a lot of different races and cultures, not just black people. I've always thought outside of the box, defied stereotypes or generalizations. I listen to country music, rock, jazz, r&b, blues, certain rap artist, opera, and classical music. Black for 31 years, and I have friends from all walks of life. I also know a lot of non-ghetto(several aren't black) people who listen to nothing but rap. And a few of those people will buy a pair of Manolo Blahniks or Jimmy Choos before paying their rent, it's just a matter of choice.

No more uncomfortable than I do with other people. Jesus Christ is my God and I follow Him. The issue of sexuality and gender is such an explosive topic. I can't just generalize and put it all in boxes. The Bible says that God looks at our hearts and judges us from that. I do my best to do the same. I don't hate any groups of people just for a label. When I do feel uncomfortable with someone I just pray about it. When I was little I was molested by people of both genders. So, that's pretty weird right there. I tend to evaluate people on wether or not they feel "safe" to me - body language, things they say and do, etc. I don't just put them in boxes and say I like this box and I hate that box. Its stupid and it doesn't work. I try to take them as I find them, one by one. But, hey, I'm not perfect at it, ok? The Old Testament laws for the Jewish nation said to stone homosexuals - the New Testament did not say to stone anyone for any crime. There were certain practices that they believed would cause a person to be in hell - and homosexuality was one of them....Some things I have to leave up to God, they are too big for me!!!

I was gonna write something like you should go hang out with trailer park trash-well I guess I did write it.

But I understand how you feel. This subculture of black ppl which is slowly but surely moving itself to the forefront. Unfortunately because gangsta rap (once a sub-culture of hip hop music & once socially conscious-believe it or not!) is so popular & makes black kids feel that the lifestyle "encompasses" being black. You might want to search out more black ppl who participate in more healthy aspects of blk culture, like the so-called Neo-soul movement, "conscious hip hop (Common, Talib Kweli), jazz, etc. The music will give you something in common to talk about. Good Luck & thanks for not stereotyping all blk ppl.

Me too. It makes me embarrassed for my race for some reason especially if there are white people present. Because I assume they will think all of us are like that. I once went to school like that. Where the girls were really rude, loud, and had no manners. One time a girl asked me for change to use the phone, I took a whole bunch of change out my pocket and she reached out to grab all of it.
