When God created Man, and when He created animals, He "breathed into" BOTH of them the "breath of life." This is referring to their souls. Both animals and humans have souls. However, God created Man in His own likeness, and that is possessing a SPIRIT. But God did NOT create animals "in His image," therefore animals do not have this same spirit.

The spirit is the element in man which gives him the ability to have an intimate relationship with God. Whenever the word "spirit" is used, it refers to the immaterial part of man including his soul.

On a non-religious front... humans have greater intellect than animals. When was the last time a gorilla built a hospital? When did you ever see a dolphin fly an airplane? Can you recall the last time an elephant walked in space? The intellectual achievements of humans FAR outstrip any intellect on the part of animals. Yes, the do have some intellect, and some can reason, to a point, but the do not have the capacities that humans have. Does our dog study the behavior of migrating cranes? Does your cat theorize about physics?

Have a great day!

Human beings are only the animals who has intelligence, capacity to acquire knowledge etc., The other animals does not possess this quality. In that way you can separate human beings from animals. In fact human being is also an animal while the reverse is not true

Surprisingly, there are no fundamental differences between humans and most other animals, but you can clearly see the differences when you get more specific, such as recreational sex and the ability to create advanced technology.

OH I forgot, the crafting of tools or anything else that requires much thought and a reasonable amount of accuracy.

Just wanted to add that nearly all animal embryos look the same in the first few days and weeks of life.

The capacity for imagination. Other primates can be said to be creative, even artistic, but only with things they already know and are familiar with. Humans have the capacity to dream of incredible things, not only of unspeakable atrocities but also of numinous wonders.

culture.

that is the only separation between us and other mammals.

We have culture, which embodies, intelligence, religion, morals ect.

i realize most people like to believe they're higher than most other mammals but everyone has to realize there was a time when we were just as animals. we were scavengers! it is our developed culture that truly separates us.
