I just remembered that when I was 12, for Halloween, I went trick-or-treating in blackface. I was totally naive about the racist implications.

Would you react in any way if a 12-year-old boy came trick or treating at your door in blackface and dreadlocks (I was a "Jamaican")? I looked like the guy from "Soul Man".

Since I adore anything un-P.C., I'd find it a riot.

And no, I am not a racist. I'm simply old enough to remember when people could actually poke fun at others, fully expecting to receive the same in kind. Alas, that's not done anymore -- except of course for the lovely double-standard of anyone being able to talk about how stupid we "white folks" are. Yep, that sure is fair....

not me! i'm not that type of person to react or make a critizism about how you look or just because you're black & i have a brown skin. no matter what color, race, language & country you're from rich or poor, i do believe in one thing "we are all even"...
if that 12-year old boy come knocking at my door step for a trick or treat, i would deffinitely open the door with a great big smile let him in, make friends with, give treats & snacks too before he leaves..and tell him he can come back anytime. :)

How would I react? Well, with it being halloween, I would chuckle at them and give them some treats .... just like all the other kids. Halloween is a time for some fun.

no life is too short to to take things seriously, especially from a child..if we could laugh at the stereo types of racism we could together conquer it...if you hold to much pride then you hurt .. I know this is going to receive thumbs down.. but the only way to overcome the hurt is through mutual laughter ,acceptance, and undersanding

I think if it were a kid, it wouldn't even cross my mind that he might be trying to be offensive. Kids should always get the benefit of the doubt.

I would think that were hilarious. You were 12, you didn't know any better. Who could get mad at you for that?

I wouldn't worry about the kid - I'd worry about the kid's parents, especially after today when I read about the 5 white people kidnapping, torturing, etc. a black woman. Two of them were mother and son. That's scary now!
