Okay so I call my twins 95% of the time by their names, William & Tobias. Otherwise I call them Wills or Tobs.
My family & my partners call them all kinds of strange names. I am usually okay with this BUT
I get really annoyed at people if they call William -Bill. If I had wanted him to be called Bill i would have called him BILL!! And i will always correct people over this, by saying, It's Will not Bill.

So do your kiddies or you have a nickname? Do you like it? Dislike it? What is the worst nickname someone has ever used on your kids or you?

My son's name is Eian, and mostly I call him by his name, but I call him all sorts of other things too, like E-man, Little Man, Baby Man, Lizard Man (that's one of his tricks. I tell him to be a lizard, or show mommy what a lizard does, and he'll stick out his tongue), and all the regular names like sweetheart and baby.

So far, no one has called him anything I didn't like.

My brother's name is Jacob, and my mom made it perfectly clear when he was tiny that his name was Jacob, not Jake. He's 13 now, and everyone calls him Jacob still, except for me. I call him Mike, just because I want to, and he answers to it, and no one knows who I'm talking about at first.

I can understand your frustration. Fortunately nobody has ever done that with my name. However, I have a cousin named Braedon and his mom insisted that we call him Braedon. I didn't see this as a problem. I think his name is cute and very masculine. My other aunt though was dead set on calling him Brady and this created tension between my two aunts. Nobody is allowed to call him Brady anymore!!!

Just a side note because I think its cute and funny, I have another cousin named Emily and when her little sister was about 2 and tried saying her (Emily's) name she pronounced it Lemny, so we soon called her Lemony and it has stuck. We only call her this at family get togethers though and would never call her this in public. She doesn't mind since she knows the history behind it.

My daughter's name is Tiffany Joi - I used to call her TJ when she was little (and it was funny at the ball field when I would call her an everyone expected a boy to come). Now she's 23 and prefers to be called by Tiffany.

My son's name is Michael and when he was little we called him Boo (because he was so big - 40 lbs at age 2 and he made me think of boo boo bear) but now he's 21 6' and 130 lbs so boo no longer suits him. Now I call him Michael but most of his friends call him Mike. Sometimes I call him Mikey and he looks at me funny, especially if we're in public and his friends are around.

I guess the thing is - when giving your child a nickname, realize that it will stick (especially from you) well into their adult years and make sure it's not something you may eventually embarrass them with.

We just had a daughter three weeks ago and we put a lot of thought into the nickname thing. Our gal's name is Rosalind and we are going with Rosie for short. However, my mother made a brief stand over Roz being the actual nickname for Rosalind. However, I think that sounds like a 60 year old accountant from Brooklyn. Anyway, my point is that it is your kid so you get to choose the nickname. That is, until he or she is old enough to choose for herself. Then, you have to call her Snake if that's what she wants.

Our family all call my youngest son Boo or Doo but his name is Jonathan. This is for nine years now. It never bothered him, but calling him by his middle names (he has two) would bring swift denial that they were his name and has only gotten used to them this past year. We started calling him Doo because he had a round head of blonde hair, reminding us of a Honey Dew melon; and the Boo for the more obvious habit children have of crying. My nicknames growing up were given by my Grandpa in the south, and I loved them as I recognized them as affectionate humor. I'm Huckleberry Picnic, and Johnny Woolybooger.

Do have a kid yet but my wife is due in a couple weeks. It's a baby boy and we are starting to think of names now. My name is Jonathan and everyone calls me by my nickname which is Jonty. I really like it cuz it has a twist in it unlike Jon or something and it makes my name shorter so. Also my wife's name is Nathalie and people call her Nat but she really doesnt like it, so I never call her that.

My son's name is David. I have called him monkey since he was about six months old. It started with chunky monkey because he was very chubby. As his personality developed, it stuck because he acted like a monkey. My daughter is named Angelica Jean. I call her Jellybean. My sister calls her beaners. We also call her Angel from time to time. Mostly Jellybean, Jelly, Beaners, or Beaner baby. Call your children what you want. Don't worry what other people think. They are your boys not anyone elses. Good luck in finding the right nicknames. You might want to wait till they have personalities of their own first.
