I'm in college and I'm also greek, and I want to start throwing parties on my own and I have a good idea how to do it. My questions is how do I get liquor involved legally? It seems that is where the real money is made. With college parties you aren't (legally) allowed to have liquor on the premises but I want to throw a New Years Party with about 400 people..and call it Auld Lang Sine with a "grown and sexy theme"

Most colleges ban liquor on campus, so the party would need to be thrown off-campus.

You need to be vigilant about checking the IDs of people at the party to make sure they are old enough to have liquor, or you could find yourself in jail facing all sorts of serious charges.

Many hotels and restaurants have meeting rooms that they charge $$$ to various organizations to rent, but you can get big discount based on # of people there who patronize the place, like stay overnite or buy food ... you have to be extremely careful about the contract because you have to be able to prove how many people patronized or you are charged full price ... plus they want to be the ones selling the liquor.

Check on places that rent meeting rooms, like VW halls for example. You want to find out which ALLOW people to serve liquor (you can't do that at a Church community meeting room for example) and which THEY will be doing it not you.

Also check on the utilities there. Suppose you rent a picnic area in a park ... that has cabins ... you want to be darn sure you can do refrigeration on the drinks, have electricity etc.

A bath tub is great to store drinks and ice to keep cans cool, but it is cheaper to get the kind where you dispense the drinks from a portable bar setup.

You also have to consider internal security.

You advertise your party.
400 people show up to have a good time.

5 people show up with guns and want all the money that the 400 people paid.

Liquor licenses are very difficult to come by; for what you want to do your best bet would be finding an existing establishment with a liquor license and come to terms on a joint venture whereby you are the promoter and organizer of the event and try to find one that will give you a percentage of ticket sales as opposed to having to rent their club and services, which you would have to pay up front.
