I do NOT understand the draw of the game of football. It's such a shame that the Buffalo Bills player will spend the rest of his life seriously affected by this so-called "game." I truly don't get it! What's the draw?! Watching a game of football has GOT to be one of the most boring things a person can do. Give me a basketball game any day! In football, there's all this stop-and-go, stop-and-go which, to me, is incredibly boring. My folks wouldn't let my brothers play, and I don't blame them. Does anyone feel like I do?

Sorry, but you're the only one that feels that way.

Football is great because it's an intense, high-action sport which actually takes a brain to figure out.

Firstly it is a "us vs. them" game, unlike tennis for e.g. where a person mostly represents himself. Secondly, it is played in so many high schools and colleges and the bonding and cheering and camaraderie( for partying) all is part of the attraction. People like to express themselves and believe in something, a cause or football, so they follow a team while others can scream their lungs out at a game (many people just want to be heard). An example of this is wrestling which we all know it is fake yet throngs go to see it although it is staged.
You are absolutely right about the stop- and- go. I think it has been sped up but I have timed it once and between plays it used to take 30 seconds before the play restarted, maybe longer if there is a pile yet if one understands the game I guess one hopes for an end result. What bothers me about the game of football is the glory sought by individuals when they absolutely could NOT have done it alone and they strut as if they did it alone! Nauseating, absolutely!

1) It's violent. A lot of people are attracted to violence.

2) It's a strategic game. Some people (myself among them) like to think like managers/coaches/etc. and try to guess where they're coming from.

3) The NFL has established better parity than any other major sport in North America.

4) It's more "macho" than basketball is.

5) The production values/marketing/continual upsell and promotion of the game and its players is second to none in any sport IMHO. Look at the stands during a game. Look at the TV contracts. Look at the Super Bowl. Look at all the other marketing the NFL does. They do a terrific job at it.

Don't get me wrong...I actually like both sports. But you asked why some people like football. And injuries are just as common, and quite often just as gruesome, in basketball (just ask Jorge Garbajosa about that.)

Football is more than a violent sport. It's kind of like a chess game in that it requires a lot of intricate strategies. NFL playbooks are as big as the tower for a PC...and that's just covering the offense or the defense

NO your the only one

The reason we the american people love football is because it has elements of what ALL Little boys like doing
RUNNING, THROWING, CATCHING, KICKING, TACKLING, And talking smack
Plus football is a true TEAM sport. unlike basketball where 1 player can win a Championship.
