Hellenic period is probably a reference to classical Greece, which pretty much ended before Philllip (Alexander's father) conquered mainland Greece.

Hellenistic generally refers to the influence of the spread of Greek culture throughout the Mediterranean and into Asia after Alexander's conquests. The Roman empire based in Constantinople was largely a Greek empire, at least in the citizens attitude to life.
